Welcome
to Talooby
RN and PL Grieve founded the Talooby Angus
Herd in 1953 in the Bylong Valley of Central Western NSW.
Today the herd stands at around 350 females, 200 APR, 120
Stud and 30 Reds and is managed by Peter Grieve on behalf
of the partners.
Talooby was established from
foundation stock purchased from the Wallah Stud in Narrabri.
12 cows and 1 bull (Wallah Minijago son of NZ import Blackjago
of Mangatoro) were purchased to from the basis for the Talooby
Herd.
The herd began producing commercial
bulls in 1970. In 1972 the cowherd numbered 200 head –
142 of them were by Wallah Faridy. This breeding to type is
the foundation stone of Talooby today, where consistent lines
of structurally correct cattle make up the herd.
The herd is one of the original
performance recording herds starting in 1964 as a demonstration
herd for NSW Agriculture. The herd performance records today
through Breed Plan, Ultrasound scanning and visual assessment.
“Our aim has always
been to produce structurally sound, moderately framed cattle
with thickness, softness, ease of doing, that also have positive
indicators for fertility and excellent temperament.”
Peter Grieve.
